Yesterday, fourteen people were severely wounded by a knife-wielding maniac on a Texas college campus during a job fair. Twenty year old Dylan Quick, admitted to police after his capture that he'd always fantasized about stabbing people, and that he'd planned this attack for quite some time. Two of the victims were still in critical condition. LINK to the original story on CNN.
Obviously, this country needs to immediately enact "knife control legislation"! For far too long, citizens of the United States have had far too easy access to knives. Hunting knives, kitchen knives, utility blades like those used by terrorists on 9/11 even! Yet nothing is being done to make sure that knives are kept out of the hands of criminals.
A quick search of Youtube even yields a scarier fact. There are literally thousands of videos on the site showing people how to make their own knives, and even swords! How can we let this continue when we let the violence rage in our streets and in our homes! Strict knife control laws need to be enacted before even one more citizen falls victim to another senseless knife attack. After the Newton attack many in this country have advocated for strict gun control laws, even the banning of gun ownership completely. How many innocent lives have to be taken before our government takes the threat of knives seriously? No one will be safe as long as you can buy a set of Ginsu knives from your local Walmart!

How many have to die before people learn? Again!
STORY at the Christian Science Monitor
At the age of 48, I grew up during a period in our country during which people had learned the follies of speeding cars. During the late 60's and through the 70's speed limits across this nation had been scaled back to a maximum of 55mph. It had been the costly lessons of the 50's that had taught us that speed equals fatalities. High death tolls during the 50's, coupled with the rising cost of gas and shortages of fuels during the early days of OPEC together encouraged our nation's leaders to set strict speed limit rules on our highways. Almost immediately this resulted in fewer fatalities, fewer multi-car crashes and better gas milage for motorists.
So what happened? The excesses of the 80's happened, that's what. Spurred on by Reaganomics, our nation's leaders, (mostly the same ones that fixed things two decades before!), started repealing laws on curbing highway speeds because WE as a nation demanded more, more...more! It wasn't enough that lowering the speed limit caused fewer traffic fatalities, the reasoning went that since cars were being built with more safety measures installed in them, it was therefore safer for cars to travel at higher speeds. That's like saying that since we have better medical procedures now, it's safer to run with scissors!
Now here we are again, looking at high gas prices, huge multi-car pile-ups on the freeways and more fatalities involved with car crashes than anytime since the 50's. It's time once again to put on our common sense caps and lower the nations speed limits. It doesn't have to go all the way back to 55mph, although I'd be okay with that myself. I think setting a speed limit on all of our nation's highways to 65 mph would be enough to turn back the clock on death by automobiles!

Government coverup?!
Have you heard about all the recent UFO sightings in Texas...particularly over the Erath county area? Hundreds of people have been reporting sighting unknown objects in the night sky. Some have reported seeing objects that they estimated to be one mile long, and a half-mile wide. As soon as these reports started coming in, The Air Force said that they have had no aircraft in that area.
Well, now they've reversed their position on that, for some reason. Here's an excerpt from a CBS affiliates website:
Texas UFO Mystery Solved?
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ―
The mystery of the Stephenville UFOs might have been solved.
Today the Air Force Reserve said on the night of January 8, ten F-16 fighter jets were conducting training flights in the area. Many of the suspected UFO sightings took place on that night.
Originally, the 301st Fighter Wing at the Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base said none of its jets were in the area that night.
In a statement today, a Wing spokesman says they made a mistake and that jets were flying in the Stephenville area that evening. The Air Force no longer investigates UFOs.
What's with the sudden change of story?! You can't tell me that the Air Force doesn't know where their F-16's are flying at all times. This looks to me to be classic government cover-up well after the fact.
